Description

Give your machine the once over with a service from KMR Sewing.

Regular servicing (once a yearish) can prevent minor issues from developing into something much worse. A service, if done properly, will involve removing most (if not all) of the outer case of your machine and giving a major clean to all of the components such as cleaning out any fluff or lint build up.

Trapped and compacted lint in the feed dogs can prevent fabric from pulling through properly and, in some cases prevent you from being able to sew at all.

Old or congealed oil and grease will need to be removed – all moving parts require lubrication but over time these lubricants lose viscosity and this can lead to undue wear on parts.

The tension of your machine will be checked, sewing is a delicate balance of matching tensions of top and bottom threads, it can be easy to adjust the top tension using the dial on your machine but the bottom tension is best left to an expert!

Timing is probably the single most important check carried out in a service, if the timing is out then there is a very good chance that the machine will either skip stitches or not produce them at all. Timing can ‘drift’ over time or can be knocked out of kilter if the mechanism has been jarred in some way- for example breaking a needle on the plate or sewing over a pin.

Once your machine has been thoroughly cleaned and lubricated it will be carefully re-assembled, a new needle will be fitted and the functions will be tested to ensure it is at optimal performance. advice may also be given regarding thread use and routine maintenance.
